Terms and Conditions

We’ve tried to keep it simple and in plain English here.  At the end of the day we want you to have a good experience, tell your friends good things and hopefully purchase of us again so we’ll do everything we can to make sure that happens.

Here’s a bit of the stuff you may need to know though….

  • Getting Lost are selling packs of cards with generic directions and/or activities on them.  Please read the product descriptions for each product for more information.  The back of our cards are changing - originally some of our cards featured NZ and Australian locations - these are being phased out to a standard image.  If you are lucky enough to receive one of these earlier editions you will find images from our adventures around Australia and New Zealand.  These are designed for inspiration.  The misdirection cards (the front of the cards) and can be used in most locations around the world. You may need to adapt or remove some depending on your location. We’ve used local producers where ever we can and these are all assembled and designed at our home rather than on a conveyor belt so there may be some differences in each product. For total clarity on our product and where it is made – the cases are printed here in NZ, cards are printed in NZ, games are assembled and designed in NZ.
  • From time to time we offer a gift with purchase with our games.  If these promotions require a coupon code then you do need to enter this code at the time of purchase in order to be eligible for these.  If you do spot a code later that you were eligible for after you have placed your order you may contact us to ask if it is possible to add this but once a product has been packed we are unable to add this.
  • We send our products from New Zealand.  Products will be shipped as soon as possible (we aim for 1-3 days from receiving your order).  Tell us if you need them earlier and we’ll do our best to help out.  We send our parcels without a signature required.  A tracking notice will be sent with all orders so check your junk mail if you haven’t got this.  We publish target delivery timelines but with supply chains being impacted around the world there will be times that your game will be delivered later than we would like due to delays or restrictions in either New Zealand or the country we are sending to.  This unfortunately is out of our control and a refund will not be issued for longer delivery time.
  • This game is all about getting lost but we don’t want you to actually get lost or endanger yourself in any way.  Please use your common sense and if at any time a direction is unsafe please don’t do it.  Getting Lost is not responsible for any consequences, damage or harm arising from using the game.
  • We will make every effort to represent the game accurately to you.  If you are not satisfied with the game please contact us within 30 days and we will refund you. You must pay for the game to be returned to us to 1/69 Roseberry Avenue, Birkenhead, Auckland in a saleable condition and a refund will be made once the game is received.
  • From time to time people accidentally purchase twice.  This may be from a time out, pushing the button multiple times or other things.  We don’t want to bill you twice (we get charged fees regardless) or send your item twice (we pay for shipping twice!).  And some people legitimately order twice for many different reasons.  If we spot a double order we will e-mail you to check.  But we don’t always spot them, especially when we are busy.  We will send you a confirmation for each order though so if you get two orders please contact us so we can fix it up prior to sending.  If we do send your order two times you will need to return one before we can refund you.
  • Please see our privacy policy for details on what we do with your data
  • By using and accessing our website you agree to our Ts & Cs
  • Getting lost reserves the right to change our Ts & Cs at any time
  • We pay NZ and Australian GST and these are included in our prices.  We ship from New Zealand.  If you are buying outside of NZ you are responsible for any taxes, duties or restrictions that may be imposed in your own country above and beyond GST in Australia and New Zealand.  We use geo location targeting to display prices in your local currency prior to checkout.

Our story

Two kids – Cat (12 years old) and James (13 years old) meet at a campground in Stillwater.  They fall in love, as only kids can, and break up 4 weeks later.  They stay friends.  They go off and have children and separate lives.  Until 2014 when they fall ever so slightly, completely, madly in love again.

In 2014 James is a Joiner living in a farm cottage with his 6 year old daughter on the Hauraki Plains.  Cat works at an Advertising Agency and lives with her two daughters (who are 5 and 8 years old) in Auckland.  Their worlds collide.  It’s messy, tough, wonderful and full of adventure.

So Cat writes about their adventures and the challenges raising their family on a blog called Getting Lost.  People start to follow their blog and they build a community of like minded adventurers.  People ask how they can find all the off the beaten track places that Cat & James find – the waterholes, shipwrecks, parks and beaches.

And from that question an idea starts to form.  An idea for a game that would get us all away from the algorithms that know us so well and instead challenge us to adventure without a plan.  And thus, the Getting Lost Game was created.

It sells out overnight (literally).

They run away to elope (with the kids in a campervan).

When they are back they make more Getting Lost Games and that first edition is joined by over 30 other editions. The game goes viral, they start sending thousands of games overseas. After 4 years making and sending their games from their home they finally move into their own space just down the road. They win some awards. Their daughters, Cat's sister and cousin join them and together they send over 300,000 games around the world.

Who would have thought what those kids would do…
